Upper Hutt City is bounded by the Kāpiti Coast District in the north, the South Wairarapa District Council area in the east, Lower Hutt City in the south, and Porirua City in the west. Upper Hutt City is named after Sir William Hutt, founding member, director and chairman of the New Zealand Company.
