The 2020 population forecast for Ahipara and Herekino Area is 3,433, and is forecast to grow to 3,849 by 2043.

Ahipara-Herekino Area is bounded by the locality of Motutangi-Kareponia and White Road in the north, the locality of Karikari Peninsula-Maungataniwha in the east, the locality of Hokianga North and Whangape Harbour in the south, and the Tasman Sea and the locality of Ahipara in the west.

Ahipara is named from the Māori words “ahi” meaning “fire” and “para” meaning “large fern, or a species of cabbage tree”. Herekino is named from the Māori words “here” meaning “cord, or to tie, or string tied up”, and “kino” meaning “bad”.
