Ohaewai and Kaikohe Surrounds is bounded by Imms Road, Lake Road, Lake Omapere, the locality of Waihou Valley-Hupara, Waikuku Road, Te Ahu Ahu Road, Waikaramu Road and State Highway 1 in the north, the locality of Moerewa, Otiria Road, Pokapu Road, the railway line, and the locality of Pokere-Waihaha in the east, the Whangarei District and the Kaipara District in the south, and the locality of Hokianga South in the west.

Ngapuhi-Kaikou is named from Māori words, with “nga” meaning “the” and “puhi” meaning “plumes”.
