Otaki Beach and Surroundings is bounded by rural land below Old Coach Road and perpendicular to Waiorongomai Road to the north, Anzac Road, Matene Street and the locality of Otaki to the east, the Otaki River to the south and Marine Parade and the Tasman Sea to the west. The place name Ōtaki is derived from Te Takitaki o Hau (the place where Hau placed his staff in the ground and intoned a ritual).
