Waikanae Park is bounded by the area above Ngarara Road and the locality of Waikanae Beach – Peka Peka to the north, the area bordering Nga Manu Nature Reserve, Waikanae Park and the locality of Waikanae-Reikorangi to the east, the Waikanae River to the south and the area close to Rutherford Drive and the locality of Waikanae Beach-Peka Peka to the west. The place name Waikanae is derived from the river of kanae (mullet) Hau saw while following Wairaka.
