Featherston is located in the northern part of the South Wairarapa District Council area, and is bounded by the locality of Kahutara and Underhill Road/Boundary Road in the north, Boundary Road and the intersection of State Highway 53 and South Featherston Road in the east, Western Lake Road in the south and State Highway 2 as well as Featherston Domain in the west. Featherston is named after Isaac Featherston, first Superintendent of Wellington Province. It was originally known as Burlings.
